Abstract
The Government of India had established national bodies like Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Department of Space (DoS), Department of Ocean Development (DoD), Department of Electronics (DoE), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and many other specialized bodies for research and development (R&D) activities with a vision to better the lives of people through technological advancement. The information revolution has affected and changed our lives to such an extent that there is no field or sector left untouched by information technology applications. The Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) play an important role in dissemination of knowledge, innovation, technology transmission, etc. This paper discuss about the investment in the R&D for the 1940 public and 2020 private institutions and the availability of the research output to the society.
